HW 3: Due on Wednesday, April 29
Exploratorium Permission Forms!!!!
Dig around a little and find a mathematical expression for the elastic potential energy stored in a spring. Take the derivative of this expression with respect to displacement. What do you end up with? Does this make sense? Explain.
HW 4: Due on Tuesday, May 5
Consider a mass suspended from a vertically oriented spring (i.e., the mass is hanging on/from the spring). You raise the mass a small height h above the equilibrium point and then let it fall. Find expressions for the energy of the mass when the mass is: a) at its maximum height, b) moving through the equilibrium point, and c) when the spring is fully extended and the mass is at its lowest point.
